Opportunities to Serve at/with Flood

Saturday Night Outreach (SNO) will be calendared for churches and organizations through Shannon Lee (4th Saturday each month besides December, location varies) call for more information 32-FLOOD.

Green Gardens Bunco Nights are happening! Small Groups will be needed to serve and cook the Second Tuesday of each month. This is a Single Room Occupancy Community with 104 rooms for formerly homeless, disabled adults (primarily mental illness). Serve meal and play Bunco. Flood's CAMP HOPE is a new ministry that will provide junior high youth living in poverty with a fun, weekend camp experience. Our goal is to build relationship with these kids and introduce them to a God of HOPE. "For You are my hope; O Lord GOD, You are my confidence from my youth. Psalm 71:5" Participants/planners at the camp will be encouraged to continue to support and involve youth in activities once they are "back home". HOME TEAMS will be groups of 4 or 6 (can be larger) that come alongside a family transitioning into housing from homelessness or other instability. Trainings will take place on the 4th Saturday of the month from 9am-11am at 3509 Union Ave. Home teams training will be an action packed two hours of information to help equip you to serve. Garden Pathways Mentoring is ongoing to train volunteers to work one on one with Flood housing and outreach guests for one hour weekly after completing CORE training at Garden Pathways. Guests will often be transitioning from welfare to work, homelessness or other crisis or instability. For more information call Shannon Lee 32-FLOOD or email shannon@floodbako.com

Clerical support is needed in the office Monday-Thurs between the hours of 9am-4pm. Strong phone skills, human services or data entry experience is required. The location is 3509 Union Ave. call Shannon to schedule at 32-FLOOD or email at shannon@floodbako.com

Moving crews are needed to pick up furniture donations and deliver to households that have recently gained housing (this can be done on a Saturday morning or mid-week) call Tom at 32-FLOOD or email tom@floodbako.com

Food Drives/Vacation Bible School Flood will continue to distribute groceries into the community through the large outreach (always), "mini" outreaches and home visits as God provides. Collecting food is still a great way for those not ready to serve to assist those in need. Target Tropicana will be BBQs from May to September on the 2nd Friday of the month with music and fellowship. (Roughly same times as SNO) For more information call Shannon Lee 32-FLOOD or email shannon@floodbako.com

Barefoot Sunday/Shoe Distribution is September 25, 2011. Distribution on October 22 at First Presbyterian Church. To learn more about how your church can get involved in this annual event call Kim Albers 32-FLOOD or email kim@floodbako.com

Feeding Hope Flood is partnering with Bakersfield churches and local non-profits to provide breakfast and sack lunches for children in Southeast Bakersfield. Serving will take place at California Avenue Veterans Hall at Martin Luther King Park on Fridays from June 17-August 12 from 9:30-11:00am. We need cooks, shoppers, servers, fun activity planners and much more. Financial donations are also needed, please sponsor a breakfast or sack lunch at $2.00 each, 50 for $100.00.
