What is a HOME Team?

HOME Teams provide encouragement and support to families moving from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The teams are comprised of four to six persons per team and work alongside Flood staff. By providing "unconditional love" they are the perfect compliment to the efforts of staff who oversee the "tough love" component of Supportive Services in housing. Some examples of where HOME Teams are helping include:

  • Tutoring a child in the to assist with school success
  • Tutoring a parent to provide support with GED completion
  • Working together to advocate for the housing family's children in the school system
  • Enjoying outings to the park and other places with the family
  • Celebrating holidays and birthdays together
  • Providing coaching for increased employment options
  • Assisting with budgeting and financial literacy
  • Advocating to meet health needs
  • Navigating available resources
  • Forming lasting friendships and providing a listening ear
  • Supporting a family in their journey toward self-sufficiency

Training for HOME Team members is provided by Flood staff and includes domestic violence awareness, components of the Bridges out of Poverty curriculum as well as specific scriptures to guide the HOME Teams to have maximum impact to empower the housing family.

Volunteers are invited to come be equipped the 4th Saturday of the month. Contact HOME Teams Coordinator, Debbie Gafner, for more information at 661-32-FLOOD or debbie@floodbako.com.
