The Southeast Ministry Center continues to dramatically increase the number of lives touched on a regular basis. Every week hundreds of people pass through our center’s doors. On any given day you’ll find job training, substance abuse intervention, a bilingual Bible study, men’s or women’s discipleship breakfast, other support groups or an after-school reading program. Hundreds of children and family members take part in our summertime ministries that include a vacation Bible school, weekly feeding and other enrichment activities for neighborhood children.
How did all these ministry programs take root and grow so quickly? There is a demonstrated need for our prevention and intervention services for the homeless, underserved and gang impacted individuals who reside in one of Bakersfield’s most violent and challenging neighborhoods.
Consistency Over Time Creates Lasting Transformation
Flood’s philosophy is simple: love ’em, love ’em and then love ’em some more. Just like Jesus does. Providing numerous opportunities to gather regularly and street outreach enables Flood to touch many individuals 2-3 times a week. Our consistent presence in the community allows individuals to rebuild structure in their life and, for many, to begin the transition from homelessness or other life challenges. Many clients also receive housing supportive services through Flood’s administrative office. While needs are being met, lives are being transformed.
